Ingredients

Apples
  • 3 apples Peeled, cored, and sliced into wedges.
Cinnamon-sugar coating
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter Melted.
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 1.5 tsp cinnamon
  • 0.25 tsp nutmeg
  • 0.25 tsp vanilla extract
Serving
  • 0.5 vanilla ice cream For serving; use more or less to taste.
  • 0.25 cup caramel sauce For drizzling.

Equipment

  • 1 air fryer

Method

Coat the apples
  1. Toss the apple wedges with melted unsalted butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla extract until evenly coated, so every surface looks glossy with spice-sugar.
Air-fry
  1. Preheat the air fryer to 375F until hot, creating the caramelizing heat needed for crisp edges.
  2. Arrange the apples in a single layer in the basket and air-fry for 10-12 minutes, shaking halfway, until caramelized and tender with browned spots.
  3. If they don’t fit in a single layer, work in batches so they brown instead of steaming.
Serve
  1. Serve the apples warm over vanilla ice cream and drizzle with caramel sauce, letting the sauce pool slightly for a glossy finish.

Notes

For the crispiest edges, keep the apple slices in a single layer (batch if needed) and shake halfway so the caramelized coating cooks evenly. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheat in the air fryer at 350F for 3-5 minutes. Freezing is not recommended because the apples can soften too much. For a lighter option, use sugar-reduced caramel sauce or swap in a low-sugar vanilla ice cream.
