Ingredients

Chicken and sauce
  • 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts Use similar thickness so they cook evenly.
  • 0.7 oz Italian dressing mix One packet is typically 0.7 oz; follow packet label.
  • 1 stick butter Slice to help it melt into the sauce.
  • 10.5 oz cream of mushroom soup Full-fat canned soup gives the classic creamy texture.
  • 4 oz cream cheese Soften for easier whisking until smooth.
  • 0.25 cup dry white wine or chicken broth Choose wine for tang or broth for a milder flavor.
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder For a savory, lightly aromatic sauce.
  • 8 oz Angel hair pasta Cook according to package directions; serve with the chicken and sauce.
  • Fresh parsley Chopped or scattered for garnish at the end.

Equipment

  • 1 Dutch oven

Method

Load the slow cooker
  1. Place the chicken breasts into the slow cooker in a single layer.
  2. Whisk the cream of mushroom soup, softened cream cheese, white wine or chicken broth, Italian dressing mix, and garlic powder until smooth.
  3. Pour the creamy mixture over the chicken, then lay the sliced butter on top.
Slow cook
  1. Cook on low for 5–6 hours (or high for 2.5–3 hours) until the chicken is tender and cooked through.
Finish and serve
  1. Stir the sauce in the slow cooker until completely smooth and creamy.
  2. Serve the chicken and sauce over cooked angel hair pasta, then garnish with fresh parsley.

Notes

For the smoothest sauce, whisk until the cream cheese fully disappears before pouring into the slow cooker. Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3–4 days; rewarm gently to avoid sauce graininess. Freezing is not recommended for the best creamy texture. For a lighter option, use reduced-fat cream cheese and butter.
